Invitation to participate in a Pan European study on Pancreatitis in CF: Prevalence and Outcome

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to request your participation in a study sponsored by the ECFS pertaining to the prevalence and outcome of pancreatitis in cystic fibrosis.

At present there is a paucity of literature on that topic. Specifically, it is not clear how frequent the complication of pancreatitis is in cystic fibrosis, what the outcome is for these patients, or whether pancreatitis occurs solely in CF patients with pancreatic sufficiency, as suggested by a very recent paper from the Toronto group (Gastroenterology, December 2002).

To resolve the above issues, we wish to set up a pan-European study to evaluate the risk factors, clinical course, therapy and complications of pancreatitis in cystic fibrosis in a systematic way. We invite you to participate in this European survey and to answer several questions about your patient population.

Please reply to the following questions within one week, so that we can make an early estimate on the number of centers and patients that can be expected to participate in the study.

Questions:

  1. How many patients were in active follow-up at your center during 2002?
  2. Has the complication of pancreatitis occurred in your CF patient population during 2002?
  3. Has the complication of pancreatitis ever occurred in your CF patient population?
  4. Are you willing to provide clinical details on patients with pancreatitis and fill out a questionnaire?
The questionnaire maybe downloaded either as a Word Document or in Rich Text format

Please send your answers to the following address:
