ECFS Neonatal Screening Working Group

The Working Group

 The ECFS CF Neonatal Screening Working Group has been implemented in 2004. The group is aimed at connecting professionals working in CF neonatal screening, producing guidelines on critical issues, and helping European nations or regions interested in starting newborn screening programs.

The Working Group is coordinated by Dr. Carlo Castellani .

Working Group Branches

The Working Group includes a number of branches, each dedicated to specific subjects:

• IMMUNOREACTIVE TRYPSIN (IRT) LABORATORY BRANCH
  Field: IRT assays (including Quality Assurance) ; neonatal screening protocols

• GENETIC ANALYSIS BRANCH
  Field: technical and epidemiological molecular biology issues

• POSITIVE RESULTS PROCESSING BRANCH
  Field: sweat test; diagnostic criteria; borderliners; carriers

• INFORMATION BRANCH
  Field: informed consent issues; information for parents of all screened newborns, carriers, at diagnosis
